If your pipe is frozen (no water, but no leak yet)
1) Open the faucet — even a closed faucet traps pressure. 2) Find the frozen section (frost, condensation, bulging). 3) Apply gentle heat (hair dryer, heating pad, warm towels) from the faucet back toward the ice — never a torch or open flame. 4) Keep the faucet open until full flow returns. 5) Check for leaks as it thaws. Can’t reach it or no flow in an hour? Stop and call — in-wall freezes need pros.
If your pipe has burst (water is flowing)
1) Shut off the main water valve. 2) Open all faucets to drain pressure. 3) Kill electricity where water is near outlets or appliances. 4) Move belongings and start removing water — first hours decide drying vs demolition. 5) Call Cherry Blossom Plumbing and keep taking photos for insurance.
Why bursts come in multiples
An ice plug traps water between the ice and a closed faucet. As the plug grows, trapped water can exceed 2,000 psi. The pipe fails at its weakest point — often nowhere near the ice — and every separately trapped run is its own pressure vessel. When we respond, we repair the break, trace the full affected run, pressure-test, and fix the root cause (insulation, reroute, heat cable, freeze-proof bibs).
