Why GFCIs exist near plumbing
Water and electricity share kitchens, baths, laundry, and basements. Code requires GFCI protection in those zones because a ground fault can kill. Plumbers work in the same spaces — we keep cords and tools respectful of GFCI zones and flag damaged devices we see.
Trip patterns that matter
Trips only when a specific appliance runs can mean appliance fault or shared GFCI load. Trips after a leak point to wet boxes or damaged insulation. Trips with nothing on may mean a failing device or wiring fault — electrician territory.

Can a plumber reset my GFCI?
We may try a dry, accessible reset during a visit, but chronic trips need an electrician. If the area is wet, we address water first.
Is GFCI the same as a surge protector?
No. GFCI protects people from ground faults. Surge protection is a different device/purpose.
